This is Sean from Word Up. Every Sunday I love to go out with my kids to enjoy Matsuyama life.
Let's learn some English from everyday life!
This week: The Zoo!
There are a lot of animals we can learn about at the Zoo. I love going there once every one or two months. It's a great place for kids or a date.
I like to use the zoo to practice three easy but VERY useful questions:
"Do you like ___?" --> Yes or no
"What kind of ___ do you like?" --> Very general
"What's your favorite ___?" --> Very specific
With just these three questions again and again, you can have a lot of small conversations, like this:
Do you like animals?
>Yes! I do.
What kind of animals do you like?
>....I like African animals.
Oh! What's your favorite animal?
>hmm.. I like lions!
Do you like Africa? (new topic!)
>Yeah! I really love the Lion King.
Ah! Me too! What's your favorite character?
>Pumba! He's the pig!
I see! So, do you like Disney? (new topic!)
(and so on...)
Of course, you can ask other questions, but with just these three, it's easy to make small talk on an airplane, bus, etc.
So if you see me at Tobe Zoo, or somewhere else, ask me what my favorite animal is!
